Community Service

ImageT&V is very active in serving the needs of the Jewish community, our neighborhood, and the larger world community through a number of standing committees and ad-hoc organizations. We welcome and encourage all members to join one of the many committees, or simply to participate in events and activities organized by the committees (see below).

How can I help right now? Upcoming Chesed Projects.

Bikur Cholim: The Bikur Cholim Committee organizes visits to Beth Israel Hospital, contacts those who are homebound, and provides Shabbat meals for those who are ill.

Chesed: The Chesed Committee organizes volunteers to deliver food for the sick and homebound and participates in other charity projects throughout the year. Recent activities included raising money for Tsunami victims, collecting winter coats for New York Cares, and delivering food to homebound AIDS victims through God’s Love We Deliver. Chevra Chesed Shel Emet: Chevra Kadisha literally means sacred society. This committee is responsible for providing ritual, practical, and emotional support when there is a death among our members or their families. The Chevra Kadisha can assist in making funeral arrangements, set up the shiva and other minyanim, order meals and provide a sense of community and comfort during the period of grief and loss. If you would like to join this committee, or need to engage their assistance, please call the synagogue office.

Community Outreach: T&V holds monthly Shabbat services at both the Cabrini Nursing Home and VA Hospital

Hazak: An acronym for Hokhmah (wisdom), Ziknah (maturity), and Kadima (looking ahead), Hazak is an organization within the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ) that is dedicated to serving the social and religious needs of USCJ congregation members who are 55 years of age or older. T&V is chartered by USCJ as a constituent member of Hazak to meet these needs and provide older T&V congregants with opportunities to connect with each other and with other Hazak groups in the New York metropolitan area.
