Rabbi Cantor Education Director Board of Trustees Honorary Board Past Presidents Rabbi: Laurence A. Sebert Rabbi Laurence A. Sebert is the spiritual leader of Town and Village Synagogue on 14th Street in Manhattan. He was ordained and received a Masters Degree from The Jewish Theological Seminary in 1985. Rabbi Sebert is involved in numerous community activities. He is active with UJA-Federation, the Rabbinical Assembly, and serves on the Ethics Committee at Beth Israel Medical Center. He is a founding member of the Downtown Kehilla and helped establish the Solomon Schechter School of Manhattan, where he serves as a Trustee. Rabbi Sebert is currently helping to edit a new edition of the High Holiday Mahzor for the Rabbinical Assembly. He is a native of Kansas City and is the drummer for Shake, Rabbis and Roll. He is married to Dr. Jane Davidson. They live in Manhattan with their two children.
Cantor: Shayna Postman Cantor Shayna Postman has been Hazzan and choir director at Tiferet Israel, Town and Village Synagogue, since 1998. In addition to leading Sabbath and Festival services, some of her duties include preparing children and adults as they become b'nei mitzvah, teaching prayer and Jewish song in the Hebrew School, leading an adult and a children's choir, and producing T&V’s annual Cantor Louis Moss Memorial Concert. Formerly adjunct faculty at the JTS Cantorial School, she also sat on the Executive Council of the Cantors Assembly. As a singer in the Zamir Chorale conducted by Matthew Lazar, she has been a soloist in Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall and Mann Auditorium in Israel. She has been a soloist with the New Yiddish Chorale, and she took part in the Milken archives series of Jewish music recordings as a chorister and soloist. Originally from Syracuse, NY, her time at Camp Ramah in Canada, from chanichah, camper, to Rosh Shirah, music director, and summers at the North American Jewish Choral Festival were influential in her development as a hazzan. Cantor Postman is a graduate of Syracuse University’s School of Music, and received her Master’s of Sacred Music and Diploma of Hazzan from the H. L. Miller Cantorial School of the Jewish Theological Seminary. Cantor Postman and her husband Michael have two daughters, Batya and Adina.

Educational DirectorShanee Epstein Shanee Epstein has been working in education for over 25 years and has been at Town and Village since1993. She is an artist who brings her creativity to T & V Hebrew School. Shanee believes that all children learn differently and that children learn more when they are enjoying learning. She has created a school where those differences are addressed through many different ways of teaching—by integrating song, art, games, and drama. She believes that text study, critical thinking, and questioning are at the core of Jewish learning. She has developed a school that engages the mind and inspires the heart to Jewish living. Shanee loves working with children of all ages and enjoys working together with teachers to create a great Hebrew School. Shanee believes that parents are a vital part to our school and welcomes all ideas. Shanee lives in Park Slope with her husband Moshe and their two boys, Rafi and Ezra. She is also the co-founder of 440 Gallery, an artist-run exhibition space in Park Slope. Shanee grew up in a loving extended traditional family and has learned first hand of the tremendous gifts that Judaism can bring to family life.
