High Holidays 2020

Dear Friends,

During this challenging time, we have tried to find a path to some sense of normalcy. We are grateful that we have been able to virtually gather as a community. Being able to pray and learn together, via Zoom, has helped so many of us feel connected. The impressive facility and flexibility of many people have made this shift possible.

Gathering in large groups is certainly not yet permitted in New York City – and probably will not be in September. Even with the permission for gatherings of up to 10 people for religious services, we have refrained from doing so. That decision was made from concern for the safety and wellbeing of our community as well as from a sense of equity. We do not want to decide who would and who would not be allowed to join communal Shabbat prayers and we certainly do not want to have to make those decisions for the High Holidays. The decision to permit using Zoom and Livestream for our prayers makes that a more comfortable and equitable choice.
