Accessibility

T&V is a diverse community made of members with many ability levels. We continue to expand our accessibility services in hopes that someday all members and guests can participate as fully as they would like.

Mobility Supports
Our building can be accessed by a ramp at the front of the building or through a ground-level side door. For use of the side door when the main gate is locked, please ring the office on the intercom or call 212-677-8090 for assistance.

The majority of our Services are held on the second floor, which is available by a chair lift. If you require the use of the chair left, please ask one of our staff members to operate it. During Services, we ensure that a staff member is available to operate the chair.

We have a large accessible bathroom stall with support bars. If necessary, we can close the bathroom for a short period to accommodate individuals and caregivers who require more private space. Please let a staff member, usher, or designated volunteer know if you require privacy support.

If necessary, accessibility equipment (walkers, crutches, wheelchairs, scooters, etc.) can be left on the ground floor in the closet or in designated areas when visiting the sanctuary for Services. Additional equipment is available upstairs for use during Services.

We have rails for the stairs on one side of the bima. There is also a regularly used podium at the floor level available for participation in Services.

Visual Supports
T&V has partnered with JBI to ensure that all prayer books are available in large print and braille. To access one, please call the office before Shabbat or ask a staff member or designated volunteer at Services on that day

ASL Interpretation
T&V is the only Synagogue in New York City to offer ASL-interpreted services on a monthly basis including major holidays. For more information on ASL-interpreted Services please click here.

Audio Supports
T&V offers the Gentner RX-1A Assistive Listening Receiver for those who need them. The RX-1A Assistive Listening Receiver provides excellent sound quality that is comfortable to hold, place in a pocket, or hung from a neck loop.

If you would like to attend Services and need a listening device, please contact office@tandv.org before Shabbat and holidays for assistance.

Learning Supports
At Kulanu Learning Lab (KLL), our Hebrew School for ages 3 years through B'nai Mitzvah, we are committed to working with a family to determine if we can meet their child's individual learning needs. We are a small school with a commitment to a diverse student body and the flexibility to address many diverse learning needs. For more information on Kulanu click here.

If you require assistance to participate in an Adult Education class, please reach out to Adult Ed for any specific accommodation requests, email adulted@tandv.org. We will do our best to accommodate your specific need.

Service Animals
Trained Service Animals are welcome at T&V. Support/assistance animals are not allowed. Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do specific work or perform specific tasks for people with disabilities. No other animals are considered service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

If you have a service animal, please know that T&V staff and designated volunteers may ask two questions to confirm your animal is a service animal as outlined by the ADA.

For more information about Service Animals please visit https://www.ada.gov/resources/service-animals-2010-requirements/.

We look forward to future capital projects that will enable us to make the building more accessible.
